We are just a couple of bookworms who avidly support the “dying” art of print and it just so happen that we developed a fondness for the Supernatural Genre. We find it very stimulating, definitely entertaining and a very good distraction to whatever mundane irritations are happening to us in real life. There will be times where we might persuade you to get up and go to the nearest library or bookstore to get a copy of an old/new piece of work that we find will be worth your while.

Here’s to the wonderful world of Vampires, Weres, Fae, Sorcery and everything else in between. Cheers!

The story behind the name Cimmaron
The story behind the name Cimmaron is actually pretty lame. When Braine aka Frankie and I decided to start this blog we had both thought we’d use pen names. I couldn’t come up with anything cool or sassy and I really didn’t have a nickname that I went by. So one day as I’m driving home from work I just happened to be paying attention to some of the street names in my neighborhood. I drove by a few that sounded different and Cimarron just stuck out. I think it’s because it reminded me of this old SNL character Nadeen (played by Cheri Oteri) who would constantly order people to “Simma down now!” The thought of it gave me a good laugh so I changed the spelling a bit to Cimmaron and just went with it. If I hadn’t thought of that I might be writing under a different name like Sacajawea, Cherokee or Satus.

Do you remember the book that got you into the habit of reading?
I loved reading while growing up and also enjoyed reading to my little brothers. It was just a hobby that’s stuck with me for most of my life. I remember when I was in elementary/middle school I would always have my nose stuck in between a Dr. Suess, Berenstein Bears or Babysitters Club or Sweet Valley High book. Then when I was about 12 or 13 my mom had given me a box a book of Harlequin romance books and that’s when my love for romance books started. Bless her heart but Mom had no idea what kind of books she had given me. They were books her coworker had given her because she’d told her that I loved to read.

When I started high school I sort of weaned off from reading for fun. By my freshman year I was stuck reading classic literature from authors like Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck, Shakespeare, Hemmingway, Harper Lee, Jane Austen and countless others. Reading and writing term papers for these books really took the fun out of reading for me. It wasn’t until I was about 19 or 20 when my love for reading returned and that was all due to J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Rowling fantastical world of magic brought back the joy and excitement that I had always loved and it was so nice to be able to escape in Harry’s world for a few hours. Since I started that series my love and passion instantly returned and I haven’t looked back since.

What books are most memorable to you and why?
The first book that I absolutely fell in love with was Scott O’Dell’s Newbery Medal winning book, Island of the Blue Dolphins. I think I was either in the 3rdor 4th grade when I had to read the book for school and fell in love with it instantly. The story of the young girl left alone on an island off the coast of California was so interesting and moving. I just remembered thinking Karana was so brave to have survived on her own and I wanted to be strong like her. To this day that story is still one of my favorites and I have the original copy that I first read.

Which series do you want to read yourself into and who/what will you be?
I would definitely want to read myself into J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Being amongst all those wonderful Wizards and Witches would blow my mind. I would want to experience going to Hogwarts, meeting Dumbledore and even sitting through one of Professor Snape’s Potions or Defense of the Dark Arts class. I’d want best friends like Ron and Hermione and go on fun, exciting and dangerous adventures like them.

If you could be any heroine, who would you be?
I would want to be MacKayla Lane or Cat Crawfield. Both of these chicks are obsolutely kick-ass and they happen to be with two of the hottest men in the paranormal world. Both chicks are fighters and I love how they go toe to toe with their super Alpha mates. I also would not mind having their self-healing powers or to fight some evil fae and vampire butt.

Guilty pleasures?
Aside from obsessing about my book boyfriends it would have to be shopping! I just love looking at all the new and pretty things at the department stores or online. I get a euphoric feeling when I buy new shoes especially heels. I love the smell of the leather from new handbags. I love looking and sampling new cosmetics. If I had all the money in the world I would probably spend most of it just shopping for myself, friends and family. As much as I love shopping for myself shopping for others gives me the best feeling in the world!

What book/movie are you looking forward to the most?
Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series and E.L James Fifty Shades of Grey. I want to just scream like a crazy fan girl thinking about these two books coming to the big screen. Barrons and Christian Grey on screen? SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Which author (alive or dead) do you want to meet and what would you ask him/her?
Ernest Hemmingway or F. Scott Fitzgerald – I really wouldn’t have a particular question for them. I mainly would just want to hang out with these literary BFF’s because it seemed like they just knew all the cool and hippest places to hang out at during their time. I’d just play the role as one of the boys sipping cognac and smoking a cigar.

The story behind the name Braine
Braine is short forBrainfreeze, my former Y! chat handle that I’ve had for over a decade now. I met a lot of wonderful people under this alias still remain in contact with most of them after all these years. Some of my best buds are people that used to be my chat mates so I was hoping that by using a version of this nick, I’ll be once again blessed with wonderful people that I can eventually call my friends one day.

Do you remember the book that got you into the habit of reading?
Sweet Valley by Francine Pascal was the first series I immersed myself into, I think I was 10 when my Mom bought me the book. I remember we were even arguing because she thought it was too “mature” for me because of Elizabeth & Jessica’s boy-craziness but I managed to persuade her. I still have fond memories of Todd 😀 and that kick started my love for reading.

What books are most memorable to you and why?
There are a lot! The ones with the most value to me are The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery and The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho. These books inspired me to no end and until now these are the ones I pick up when I’m feeling down. Then there’s Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, this was my companion novel when my mom was dying of cancer, it helped me cope and put the idea of death and dying into perspective.

Which series do you want to read yourself into and who/what will you be?
I generally want to read myself into every freaking book that lands on my lap just to get that first hand experience. But if I were to narrow it down to three I think I’d like to be a wizard in Hogwarts, an Elf in Lord of the Rings and an Aes Sedai in Wheel of Time.

If you could be any heroine, who would you be?

I want to be either MacKayla Lane or Sookie Stackhouse and not just for their envy worthy romantic relationships but because they are wicked heroines! Mac is a survivor and I think it’ll be fun to read minds.

Guilty pleasures?
Aside from my Real Housewives and book addiction I also have an insatiable sweet tooth. And though I get teased a lot by Cimmaron because of my YA reads, I go above an beyond the usual Mommy porn on my private time. I’ll leave it at that 😉

What book/movie are you looking forward to the most?
I am really excited to see KMM’s Fever series adapted just so I can see JZB and V’Lane/Cruce in real life.

Which author (alive or dead) do you want to meet and what will you ask him/her?

  • Bram Stoker to get his opinion about the sparkling vampires and the current vampire trend.
  • Anne Rice and just have a conversation with her about New Orleans, gay rights and organized religion. She’s my favorite author of all time!
  • William Shakespeare and finally solve the mystery if he’s real or if the name is just someone’s pseudonym
