Gush and Gripe #11

Gushing on Homeland

I’ve been bingeing on several TV shows lately and after my Life marathon on Netflix, I realized that I developed a crush on Damian Lewis! Aside from Prince Harry, I’m really not into redheads but dang nabbit! Damian Lewis is one hot firecrotch! So I started watching HOMELAND and short end of the story, I’m hooked!

HOMELAND is basically about a bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) who is investigating/obsessing on Marine Sargeant Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) who was captured and tortured by terrorists in Afghanistan for eight years. After his rescue Mathison got a tip implicating that a certain Marine joined the enemy and is now a threat to the US. Thus the cloak-and-dagger begins and mayhem ensues in every episode.

I’m not a big fan of Claire Danes but several episodes into the show and she found a new fan in me. No wonder this girl got Emmy’s and Golden Globes! Add Mr. Lewis and my other guilty pleasure, Rupert Friend, into the mix and my eyes are just about glued to the screen! The plot is gripping and the acting is just superb, if you haven’t seen an episode, you’re missing out on something really good!

Griping on Flu Season
For the past couple of days I’ve been doing my darnest keeping the damn flu at bay. I’ve been holing up in my room, getting water drunk, munching on chewable vitamins like tic tacs. Right now I’m on the brink of either getting past it or succumbing to the damn virus. I don’t have a fever yet but I get the symptoms like itchy throat, headache and the sniffles, which is really gross and the coughing part is really a bitch! I want to reach down my throat and scratch my esophagus out! I got the virus from my 3yo nephew, whose like a virus magnet and is quick to pass it on to his aunt. The little bugger is now better while I am suffering slowly everyday.

We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our newest book obsession, New Adult, than to host our very first giveaway blog hop here on Talk Supe!

What is New Adult?

New Adult is a recent category of fiction for young adults. Books in the New Adult category are marketed to both YA readers and adult readers. Intended to appeal to readers aged 14 through 35, new adult books deal with themes deemed too racy for YA set but with YA’s familiar tropes and narrative arcs.

Protagonists in new adult stories usually range from the ages of late teens to early twenties (18-25). This is typically the time young adults have just graduated high school, going off to college, moving away from home for the first time, or going off into the adult world. New adult books tend to be more….

It’s seems like every week a new adult book is hitting the best-seller lists of Amazon, Wall Street Journal, NY Times or USA Today. So, if you love drama and crave that crazy, stupid kind of young love story that has you staying up till the early morning hours reading, then you’ll definitely love this new-ish genre. New adult is perfect for readers who might have grown too old for YA but are not quite ready to jump into the more adult reads out there.

Cover Reveal: Dare To You by Katie McGarry

Dare To You
Pushing the Limits #2
Katie McGarry
Harlequin Teen
May 21, 2013

“I dare you…”

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does….

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all….

Eeeep!! Another cover reveal for another book that we are dying to read. We LOVED Garry’s debut novel, Pushing the Limits, so we are absolutely dying to read the second book in this series. We were both so touched by Echo and Noah’s emotional and heart breaking story in Pushing the Limits and we’re sure that Beth and Ryan’s story will be just as good. And the kissing in the rain cover? LOVE IT!!!

Tara Sivec’s Troubles and Treats Promo Blitz + Giveaway (INT)

Troubles and Treats
Chocolate Lovers #3
Tara Sivec

Drew and Jenny have spent years being the envy of their friends with their out of control sex lives – well, not really. Mostly it makes their friends want to throw up in their mouths a little.

With two little kids and two busy lives, for the first time, Drew and Jenny aren’t on the same page in the bedroom. Drew will stop at nothing to get his previously amorous wife back in the sack, and Jenny will do anything for a full night of sleep.

Carter and Claire, and Jim and Liz are their usual (un)helpful selves and are full of advice for the discontented duo, wanting nothing more than to help restore order to the usually happy couple’s lives.

In the third and final installment of the Chocolate Lovers Series, will Drew and Jenny find the spark that’s been missing in their marriage, or will the trouble they’re having cause a stickier situation than the time Jenny poured honey all over Drew and he fused himself to a tree?

Available Tomorrow! November 30th.
Make sure you download your copy!

In case you didn’t know, I absof*ckinglutely love Tara’s Chocolate Lovers series. So when we say that I am totally excited for the third book in the series, that would be a complete understatement. I can hardly contain myself with all of the excitement. If you’re a fan of crude, snarky, and silly comedy mixed in with a fiery sweet romance, then you must read Tara’s books. I swear to you that you will be laughing from start to finish. Her books are absolutely the most entertaining books that I have read this year and I would recommend these book to everyone I know and to complete strangers.

I thought it would be a bunch of arguing and pointing fingers about whose fault it is that we’re not having sex anymore. Maybe she doesn’t think that’s the problem. Shit, maybe that isn’t the problem.

Maybe it’s just my problem. She’s not faking a work injury, she’s not cheating on me…what the hell else could it be? A few years ago she cut me off from sex for a week because I gave her a Dutch Oven in bed one night. While hilarious, it’s never a good idea when your wife is naked and getting ready to mount you. There was another time when I gave her a Wet Willy when she started coming.

That wasn’t meant to be hilarious, I read about it in Cosmo. When she locked me out of the bedroom I grabbed the magazine and realized two of the pages were stuck together -sex tips and practical jokes. Well played, Cosmo. Well played.

Tara Sivec is a best selling author, wife, mom, chauffeur, cheerleading coach, soccer coach, babysitter, short-order cook, genius and albino squirrel hunter. She lives in Ohio with her husband and two kids. In her spare time she likes to read, write and cover things in chocolate. Most of her material comes from real life experiences with family and friends. Lucky for them, the names have been changed to protect the innocent (aka, drunk).

As some of you may already know, I am a HUGE Colleen Hoover fan. Her Slammed series is one of THE best books I’ve read this year. I discovered it when it was still being self-published and I loved seeing so many people end up loving this series as much as I did. Colleen has a great talent of captivating you with her characters and creating stories that will touch your soul. If Hopeless is able to capture the same amount of emotions out of me that Colleen did with Slammed, then I will guarantee you right now that this will be another great read from Ms. Hoover. I better get my supply of Kleenex tissues because if Colleen stays true to herself and her writing, Hopeless might be another tear jerker.
Hopeless is slated to be released December 31, 2012.

Keatyn Chronicles #1
Jillian Dodd

September 1, 2012

Keatyn has everything she ever dreamed of. Her life is following the script she wrote for the perfect high school experience. She’s popular, goes to the best parties, dates the hottest guy, and sits at the most coveted lunch table.

She’s just not sure she wants it anymore. Because really, things aren’t all that perfect.

Her best friend is threatening to tell everyone her perfect relationship is a scam. Her perfect boyfriend gets drunk at every party they go to.

It’s exhausting always trying to look and act perfect. And deep down, she isn’t sure if she has any true friends.

To add to the drama, her movie star mom’s long-time fan has turned stalker. An older man is flirting with her and telling her they should make a movie together. And she’s crushing on an adorable surfer. Dating a guy like him would mean committing social suicide.

So she writes a new script. One where all the pieces of her life will come together in perfect harmony. But little does she know, there’s someone who will do anything to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Kindle or Nook copy of STALK ME (Keatyn Chronicles, Book One). To quality to enter, you must follow Talk Supe via GFC, email, Networked Blogs or Linky. Fill out the Rafflecopter form before to enter. Contest is Open Internationally. Ends Dec. 5.

Review: Poison Shy by Stacey Madden

Series: Stand-alone
Format: ARC (NetGalley)
Excerpt
Release Date: September 26, 2012
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Book Depository

Brandon Galloway, a 29-year-old nobody with a history of dead-end jobs, lands a position with a pest control company. When he meets 21-year-old wild child Melanie Blaxley while fumigating her apartment for bed bugs, her vulgar sensuality and reckless promiscuity both attract and repulse him. Before long her world of crazy sex and petty crime starts to take its toll on Brandon’s sanity, and he wonders how much more of her he can stand. Then she disappears, and Brandon must find out if it is all just a prank, or if Melanie’s wild ways finally led her into danger. A hair-raising thrill ride through the bars and backstreets of a fictional small town, this fast-paced and darkly funny debut novel explores obsession, fear, and the threat of other people.

POISON SHY, Stacey Madden’s debut novel is the kind of dark & disturbing story I am fond of reading, it’s unfiltered, sarcastically funny and jagged brutally honest doesn’t even begin to cut it. What started as a simple case of lust and loneliness escalated into a criminally tragic story that started one fateful day when Brandon Galloway fumigated Melanie Blaxely’s apartment for bed bugs.

I learned at a young age that my parents weren’t the steady, reliable safeguards I’d once imagined them to be. Instead they were frail, selfish, and vengeful — just like everyone else.

POISON SHY is told in Brandon’s POV, his childhood alone has enough material for SMadden to write another sob-story what with a schizophrenic, bible thumping mother and a cheater for a father who abandoned them and ran off with his mistress. Naturally Brandon developed a certain pessimism for life but things started looking up when he met Melanie. But whatever dreams of hand-holding and long walks at the beach Brandon has was squashed down by Melanie on that first date with her crass sensuality and unapologetic behavior. Disgusting is the first word that comes to mind to describe their first “date” and I wouldn’t call their relationship romantic either. Their affair is so screwed-up the highlights are a lot of pity-fucks, drunken sex and chlamydia that essentially bonded them in some weird way. And like most relationships forged in promiscuity and lies, Brandon and Melanie’s ended before it even began. Tragically.

Bad decisions. That’s what it came down to. Getting involved with Melanie was a bad decision.

I love SMadden’s voice its sugar-free and tactless with succinct lamentations about life’s misfortune, he had no qualms in creating real and human characters, people who pee, vomit, stink and shit for starters. You won’t find romantic prose, long and winding rosy lines and dreams of HEA, just a swift punch in the gut that will disturb and grip you at the same time. No illusions of perfection here and he didn’t try to romanticize the tragedies of life, POISON SHY plainly shows us that when people mess up, the effects are usually permanent and ugly. SMadden’s debut is provocative in it’s simplicity, it’s one of those sorry illustrations that shit can happen to even the most innocent and unassuming guy, the only difference is POISON SHY was told in a very extraordinary way. As a reference, if you got a kick out of Crank by Ellen Hopkinds, you’ll definitely would want to read this one.

Sealed With a Curse
The Weird Girls 1
Cecy Robson
December 31, 2012
Signet Eclipse

Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls—with one tiny exception: they’re products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, weird…

The Wird sisters are content to avoid the local vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region—until one of them blows up a vampire in self-defense. Everyone knows vampires aren’t aggressive, and killing one is punishable by death. But soon more bloodlust-fueled attacks occur, and the community wonders: are the vampires of Tahoe cursed with a plague?

Celia reluctantly agrees to help Misha, the handsome leader of an infected vampire family. But Aric, the head of the werewolf pack determined to destroy Misha’s family to keep the region safe, warns Celia to stay out of the fight. Caught between two hot alphas, Celia must find a way to please everyone, save everyone, and oh yeah, not lose her heart to the wrong guy—or die a miserable death. Because now that the evil behind the plague knows who Celia is, it’s coming for her and her sisters. This Wird girl has never had it so tough.

I’ve read both the novella and this one and it was awesome! I can’t wait for the rest of you to read Cecy Robson’s debut, I’m sure one of you will want to be Weird.

Forever My Girl

The Beaumont Series #1
Heidi McLaughlin

New Adult, Contemporary
December 27, 2012

I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.

And now I’m going back.

After ten years.

I hope I can explain that after all this time.

I still want her to be my forever girl.

Musicians. High School Sweethearts. The one that got away.
This has all the makings for the kind of story that I like. Needing this book. Now.

What books or books are you anxiously waiting for?
