Year 3.4: Eternal Guardian Series by Elisabeth Naughton + Casting Couch & Giveaway

Eternal Guardians Series
Elisabeth Naughton
Love Spell
2010-Present
Paranormal Romance

As unrest in the Underworld threatens, seven immortal warriors descended from the greatest heroes in all of Ancient Greece may just be mankind’s last hope.

Old school paranormal romance.
That’s how I’d describe Elisabeth Naughton’s ETERNAL GUARDIANS series. And any PNR lover can relate to me when I say we always “cast” these beautiful people in our heads when we read their fiery and passionate love stories. So I thought I’d let the creator do it for us, after all Elisabeth made these delicious men and I think she’s the best person to flesh them out and give us a good visual of what they look like.

Enjoy the drool-worthy post, Supies, and have a wonderful Friday!

Eternal Guardians Is…

The Eternal Guardians are a group of warriors descended from the greatest heroes in all of ancient Greece. They protect the mortal realm from threats of the Underworld and are in a race to keep Kronos, the most evil of all gods, from being released from Tartarus. Should Kronos escape, the landscape of the world—both human and immortal—will change forever.

Mythology & Cosmology
Each book is based on a different Guardian through this journey of good vs evil — his life, his struggles, and the fate of his soul mate, which in their world is a curse rather than a blessing. Finding that soul mate invariably brings more trouble than not. Set in modern times, the books move from the human world, which all the gods are clamoring to control, to Argolea, the supposed utopian world where the Guardians live, and bounce back and forth between the Underworld and sometimes even Olympus.

Let’s get to fun part! Cast your heroes, please!
Fantasy casting is always hard for me, but I’ll give it a try!

Eternal Guardians 1: MARKED
Theron is the leader of the Eternal Guardians and a descendant of Heracles. He is 203 yrs old. He’s also the strongest of the Guardians, and believes duty comes before anything else. When he meets and falls for a human woman who is the key to a prophecy that could bring about the downfall of his world, duty clashes with desire and tests his every belief.

Eternal Guardians 2: ENTWINED
Zander is the only immortal Guardian and a descendant of Achilles. At 829 years, he’s served with most of his current Guardian’s fathers, and has grown tired of the fight. Cursed by Achilles’s legacy of rage, and a soul mate he once loved and lost, he’s continually searching for his weakness—that element that will save him from a life of immortality and send him to the afterlife.

Eternal Guardians 3: TEMPTED
Demetrius is the largest and darkest Guardian, and a descendant of the famed hero Jason. A fierce fighter, he hides a dangerous secret, and most of the other Guardians steer clear of him. When he’s trapped on a mysterious island with the princess of the realm, his secrets threaten more than just her safety. They threaten the very fabric of the world the Guardians protect.

Eternal Guardians 4: ENRAPTURED
When his Guardian brother was enslaved, Orpheus, a major thorn in the Guardians side, is suddenly chosen by the Fates to take his brother’s spot in the order. A descendant of Perseus and half witch who hides a secret even his brother doesn’t know, Orpheus could care less about duty and honor to a group that overlooked him. He has only one goal: to find and free his brother from his prison in the Underworld. He sets out on his quest, only to be interrupted by a Siren—one of Zeus’s elite warriors—who has her own agenda.

Eternal Guardians 5: ENSLAVED
Enslavement in the Underworld changed Gryphon forever. A descendant of Perseus, he now battles a dark voice, pushing him toward a fate he can’t seem to change. Not wanting to hurt his Guardian brothers, he escapes from their compound with only one goal: to find and kill the person who imprisoned him. But to get away from his friends who will never let him leave on his own, he takes one woman hostage—a refugee herself: Maelea, the daughter of Zeus and Persephone. A a woman whose allegiance is unknown and whose destiny could change the direction of the war between the Guardians and the gods.

Eternal Guardians 6: BOUND
Titus, a descendant of Odysseus, is the thinker of the group. He’s also the only one who can read minds. A gift that has turned into a curse when combined with his ability to feel the emotions of those he touches. When a mysterious redhead enters the Guardians world, Titus is tasked with finding her and uncovering her agenda. He just never expects to be drawn into the fight between gods – Titans vs Olympians — or how his fate will be inexplicably tied to it from here on out.

Eternal Guardians 7: TWISTED
Nick is the leader of the half breeds. While not a Guardian of the order, Nick sports the Guardian markings, directed but the Fates, and he has become an unlikely ally to the Guardians in their fight to protect the human realm. But when he trades his life to Hades to save that of his soul mate—and his brother Demetrius’s soul mate—Nick’s life is forever changed. Imprisonment in the Prince of Darkness’s lair will test him not just physically, but emotionally when he meets a woman who will change the fate of the war.

I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time.

Years ago, my husband bought me Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With The Wind. If you ever saw the book, you know it’s a long one. I sat and read that thing from cover to cover, and dreamed of one day being a writer. But I didn’t actually try my hand at writing until years later when I quit my teaching job to stay home with my kids. And my husband? After that week of reading where I neglected him and everything else until I finished Scarlett, he vowed never to buy me another book again. Little did he know I’d one day end up sitting at a keyboard all day drafting my own stories.

My writing journey has not been easy. I didn’t just sit down one day, decide I was going to write a book and voila! sell my very first attempt. As most authors will probably agree, the path to publication is filled with hours of work, pulling all-nighters I thought I’d given up in college, sacrifices, rejections, but a love I discovered along the way I just can’t live without. Instead of a big, thick book to read by lamplight (I do read much smaller ones when I get the chance), I’ve traded in my reading obsession for a laptop. And I’ve never been happier.

I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a wonderful family and fabulous husband who put up with my writing—and obsessive personality—even when life is chaotic. More than once my kids have been late to swimming or baseball because I needed just five more minutes to finish a scene. Their support and encouragement mean the world to me. I also have amazing friends and a support network I couldn’t survive without. So to all of you out there who have encouraged me along the way, sent me emails and fan letters, phone calls and congratulations, I just want to say, thank you. You make this whole writing gig that much more enjoyable. I truly wouldn’t be here without you.

Year 3.4: Burned by Tara Sivec + Love Letters & Giveaway

Burned
Tara Sivec
June 10, 2014
Romantica

Seventeen years old when he broke my heart.
Seventeen days later when another picked up the pieces.
Seventeen years together.
Seventeen thousand problems.
Seventeen days of reliving my past and finding a new future.
Seventeen minutes until it all went up in flames.
Seventeen breaths until I took my last.
This is my story…and it’s going to burn.

NOTE: I know some of you don’t necessarily like reading excerpts and teasers. However, please make an exception for this. The deleted scene below leads to a touching, heartfelt, and maybe even a tearjerker letter below from Collin to his dear Finnley.

“Burned” extended/deleted scene
by Tara Sivec

“Hi, Mrs. McDaniels!” I smile as I hold the front door open for her.
She walks inside, juggling two cardboard boxes, tsk’ing me as she walks by.
“Finnley, how many times do I have to tell you to call me Mom?”
I laugh, taking the boxes from her hands and setting them down on top of the kitchen table. “Sorry, habit. I’ve known you since I was fifteen years old. It’s hard for me to think of you as anything other than Mrs. McDaniels.”
Wrapping her arms around me, she gives me a tight squeeze. “You’re marrying my son in three months. It’s time to break the habit.”
She backs away and we both stare down at the boxes. “I take it this is the rest of Collin’s things from your basement?”
When I moved into Collin’s house after mine burnt to the ground, his mother began making weekly trips over here dropping off things from Collin’s childhood. Old school work, photo albums, baseball trophies…memories she and his father have kept in boxes in the corner of their basement.
“Yep, this should be the last of it. I looked through it and I think there’s something in the bottom box you might find particularly interesting.”
I look at her questioningly, but she just winks, gives me another quick hug and then lets herself out the front door.
Checking the clock on the wall, I realize I still have another hour before Collin gets home from his forty-eight-hour shift at the station. I really thought that living with a fireman would be lonely since they work such long hours, but Collin and I are nothing if not creative. He’s not out on calls during that entire time, so I’ll usually run up to the station to bring him dinner and, more often than not, we find time to sneak away into the workout room, blast some Nine Inch Nails and reacquaint ourselves with the subwoofer. We’ve also found that sex on a stationary bike, while tricky, is just as satisfying.
Grabbing a glass of wine, I pick up the bottom box and make my way into the living room, taking a seat on the floor in front of the fireplace.
Ripping the packing tape off of the box, I pull open the flaps and see an envelope sitting right on top of a few photo albums. My name is scrawled across the middle of the envelope in Collin’s handwriting. Smiling to myself, I pick up the envelope and turn it over, running my finger under the seal and tearing it open. Back in high school when we were first dating, I wrote him letters practically every day. I mean, that’s what high school girls who are madly in love do, right? God forbid we grow balls and actually tell the guy what we’re feeling; it’s much easier to pour our hearts out on a piece of paper in the solitude of our bedrooms while we listen to sad love songs on repeat. Which strangely sounds like the exact same thing we do when they break our hearts. I’m pretty sure if my parents heard “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)” by Cinderella blasting from my room one more time when I was seventeen, they would have had me committed.
Collin was never big on writing me notes back then and the only time I ever got one from him was the dreaded “I’m breaking up with you” note. I can tell by the handwriting as soon as I open the folded piece of notebook paper inside the envelope that this isn’t from high school. His handwriting is much neater for one, and the date at the top of the note is another dead giveaway: June 15, 2005.
Jesus, this is from seven years after we broke up.
Why the hell would he have written me a letter seven years after that, and ten years before we saw each other again?
I lean my back against the chair in front of the fireplace and begin reading the letter.

June 15, 2005

Dear Finnley
Finnley
Yo Finnley!
Lee:
I just polished off an entire bottle of Jack, which is the only explanation as to why I’m sitting on my parent’s couch writing a fucking letter. Who writes letters anymore? I could probably just ask my mom for your email address, I’m sure she has it. She knows every other fucking thing about your life and never fails to tell me all about it whenever I’m home. Like today, for instance. I pop in for a weekend visit and the first thing she does is shove the local paper in my face that has your wedding announcement in it. Your fucking wedding announcement. You’re married. Jesus Christ, I can’t believe you’re married. I mean, I can believe it. You’re amazing and beautiful and smart…I just never expected it to happen so soon. It’s probably not soon to you; you’ve been with Castillo for seven years. Seven years since I wrote you that stupid note breaking up with you and here I am writing you another one. At least this time I probably won’t have the guts to give it to you. This is just me, being drunk off my ass, spending the night in my parent’s home, thinking about the past with a copy of your wedding announcement sitting here and your smiling face in black and white staring back at me. You look so happy, Lee. So beautiful and happy. Does he make you happy? Did he make all of your dreams come true? Does he make you laugh and wipe away your tears when you cry? I always thought I would be the only one to do that, and then I had to go and fuck everything up. Who the hell knows at seventeen that the person they’re with is who they should spend the rest of their life with? I sure as hell didn’t. I was a stupid kid and I thought I had plenty of time to win you back someday. That was always my plan, as dumb as it sounds. Spend some time apart and then beg you to come back. Now it’s too late. I should have known you would never stay alone for long. You’re too amazing for someone NOT to love you. I don’t blame you for falling in love with Castillo. He swooped in and picked up the pieces that I broke. He grabbed onto your heart and never let it go. I wish I had done the same.  If I could go back and do it all over, I would never have written that letter. I would have loved you until the day I died. Remember graduation day? The first time we spoke after I broke up with you? That awkward one-armed hug you gave me and what you whispered in my ear?

“I hope all your dreams come true, Collin.”

You were my only dream, Lee. Even after all these years, it’s still you. I’m afraid it will always be you. I wish I would have wrapped my arms around you and begged you to love me again. Maybe then I wouldn’t be sitting here, on what’s supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life so far, wishing things were different. I graduated from the fire academy today. I really did it, Lee. I’m officially a fireman and I start my first job on Monday. I’m going to be rushing into burning buildings to save people and the men I work with are going to depend on me to have their backs. I’m doing what I always dreamed and I should be happy, right? I should be freaking the fuck out that after four years of college and two years at the academy, it’s finally happening. There’s something missing, though. There’s something that just doesn’t make it complete and I know it’s because you’re not here celebrating with me. Remember when we used to sit in your parent’s backyard after you did one of your gunpowder pieces, talking about the future? You always said that when I graduated, you’d be in the crowd cheering louder than anyone. Can you believe I actually looked out into the hundreds of rows of people today and wondered if I’d see your face? This tiny little part of me hoped that, even after seven years, you would have kept your promise, no matter what happened between us. I’m such a fucking idiot. Why should you keep your promise when I didn’t?
I hope you’re following your dreams too, Lee. Every time I walk past an art gallery, I still go inside, hoping to see one of your pieces hanging on the wall. Fuck, I miss you. I miss the sound of your voice, your lips, your smile, your friendship… Jordan Castillo is a lucky fucking bastard and I hope he knows this. I hope he tells you every single day how amazing and talented you are. I hope he wakes up every morning thanking his lucky fucking stars that you picked him to give your love to.
Did you know that D.J. and Phina went out a few times recently? I’m not supposed to tell anyone this. D.J. swore me to secrecy, but since you’re never going to read this anyway, what does it matter? From the little bit I got him to admit over beers, it didn’t end well. I don’t know what the fuck happened, but knowing D.J it’s safe to assume he fucked everything up. There’s a reason why we’re best friends and that’s probably because we share a brain and screw up the best things that ever happened to us. So, yeah. D.J. and Phina…can you believe it?
Anyway, I wish things could be different. I wish I could fully enjoy this new chapter of my life. I wish I had the Goddamn courage to send you this letter. I wish I wasn’t such a coward when it comes to you. You’re married and you’re obviously happy. You’re going to build a life and have children with this guy. He gets to do all these things and I should be happy for you, but the only thing I can think about is – it should have been me. Fuck! It should have been me.
If we ever run into each other again, I hope I can be a stand-up guy and tell you I’m happy for you and mean it. Who knows, maybe I’ll find someone else soon. Maybe we’ll both be married and happy the next time our paths cross. Maybe by then, I’ll have stopped jumping from one woman to the next, just hoping to find someone who makes me feel the way you did.
I know you’ll never read this stupid letter, but at least it helped me realize one thing. I did keep my promise to you, even if you never know it. I still love you. I will probably always love you. That’s a promise I don’t think I’ll ever be able to break.
You’re my spark.
You’re my light.
You’re my fire…and I’ll never be able to put this one out.

Collin

“Lee?”
I jerk with a start and glance up from the note to see Collin standing above me, looking down at me in concern.
“Babe, are you okay? What happened?”
He squats down next to me, bringing his hands to either side of my face and using his thumbs to brush away the tears that I didn’t even realize were streaming down my cheeks.
I can’t speak. All I can do is look into his eyes and cry even harder. I cry for all the years we lost, I cry for the twenty-four-year old who wrote this letter and thought he had lost me forever and I cry at the knowledge that he’s here…with me…loving me more than I ever thought I deserved.
Unable to find my voice, I hold the letter up between us. He looks down at it and I watch his face turn an embarrassed shade of red.
“Oh, my God, I’m going to kill my mother,” he mutters, closing his eyes and shaking his head. “You were never supposed to see that thing. Jesus, I was trashed when I wrote that. I don’t even want to know what that thing says. I’m sure it’s pathetic.”
I shake my head in disagreement, pushing myself up on my knees and wrapping my arms around his neck. I pull him against my body and hold onto him as tightly as I can. Even after all these months of being with him, I’m still afraid that at any moment I’ll wake up and realize this was all a dream.
Letting the note flutter to the ground next to us, I pull my head back so I can look into his eyes again. “I don’t want to waste another minute of this life with you. I don’t want to wait another three months before I can be your wife. We’ve waited long enough. Let’s do it right now. Tonight. Just get in our car and drive until we find someone who can perform the ceremony.”
His eyes widen and his smile lights up his entire face. “I thought you wanted a big wedding, Lee. I know I told you after I proposed that I didn’t care about that and just wanted to be married to you, but I know it’s what you want. Don’t change your mind just because I’m impatient.”
Leaning forward, I place a kiss on his lips before pulling back just enough to speak softly against his mouth. “I was being silly. I thought I needed a big wedding to prove to you and everyone else how much this means to me, but that’s not the case. I don’t need a fancy dress or hundreds of people we barely know congratulating us. I just need you, Collin. Just you. Forever.”
He pulls me tighter against him with one arm and slides his other hand around the nape of my neck.
“I can’t believe you’re really mine,” he whispers.
Closing the distance between us, I press my lips to his, running my tongue across his bottom lip. He lets out a ragged breath, his hand around my waist sliding down to cup my ass and pull my lower half right up against his own. I feel his cock straining against his jeans and my entire body tingles in anticipation. Moving my hand between our bodies, I quickly unbutton his jeans and slide my hand inside, palming his cock.
He lets out a growl before attacking my mouth, his tongue pushing past my lips to tangle with my own. Sliding my hand from base to tip over and over, he moans into my mouth and begins thrusting his hips against my hand. Reaching between us with both hands, he rips my blouse right down the middle, buttons scattering across the hardwood floor. He tears his mouth away from mine and kisses his way down my neck and chest. Sliding the lace cup of my bra out of the way, his mouth finds my nipple and he swirls his tongue around the tight bud before sucking it hard into his mouth.
Crying out his name, I arch my back, pushing my breast into his mouth and work my hand harder and faster up and down his cock. Something from the letter tickles the back of my mind and I pause. Collin halts his attention to my breast and pulls his head back to look up at me.
“You mentioned something about D.J. and Phina in that letter. What the hell was that all about?” I question him.
He laughs and shakes his head. “Oh, Jesus. That’s definitely a story for another time. It would take me entirely too long to explain it and right now, I just want you naked.”
I smile at him and resume stroking his cock. “That sounds like a good idea to me, Mr. McDaniels.”
He slides his fingers into the waistband of my skirt and thong and pushes them down my thighs.
“I have lots of good ideas, Soon-To-Be-Mrs. McDaniels,” he tells me with a smirk as he eases me down on my back and covers my body with his own.
Freeing himself from his jeans, he positions his cock right at my opening, sliding it through the wetness that only he can create.
“Make me burn, Collin,” I whisper, wrapping my thighs around his hips.
“Forever, Lee. Forever,” he replies as he pushes himself slowly inside me.

Year 3.4: TRUST: Pandora’s Box by Cristiane Serruya + Desser Recipe & Giveaway

TRUST: Pandora’s Box
Trust Trilogy 3
Cristiane Serruya
April 16, 2014
Romantica
TRUST: PANDORA’S BOX, the last installment of the TRUST TRILOGY, follows Ethan, Alistair and Sophia as each one of them strives to live happily ever after. But a greedy man, who has uncovered the many secrets and wrong deeds committed by Ethan, Alistair and Sophia, realizes they could be worth millions. Many are invited to join his team. With so many enemies out for revenge, what will the future bring to Ethan, Alistair and Sophia? Eventually, wishes and nightmares come true… Will hope survive? This book is the last installment of the TRUST TRILOGY and contains graphic sex scenes and mild violence. Indicated for mature audiences.

NOTE: This scene is based on a true story. Carolina is based off Cristiane’s brother who according to her is an even better cook than she is. Gotta love inspired stories, don’t you?!

He grasped her hand, lacing his fingers with hers, drawing her attention back to his face. “Do you still miss your parents, Sophia?”
She almost choked with the unexpected change of subject. She put the glass on the table, swallowed the juice and dabbed her mouth with her napkin, clearing her throat. “Yes. I do. Very much. It’s a… An eternal void. It’s been fifteen years. I only remember flashes; my father pushing me on a swing or my mother helping me with my homework. But mostly, what I remember are…” She sighed and raised her eyes to his. “The senses. Her smell and her caresses. Her soft bosom. His laughter and booming voice. The feeling of freedom when he would throw me up in the air and catch me.” Her lips trembled. “Cherished memories.”
Whenever she looked at him with those sad, dark brown, emotion-filled eyes, Alistair wanted to wrap his arms around her, shielding her from all harm and pain. To make love to her until she was laughing again, that tinkled sound that made his heartbeat accelerate to a thousand per minute. “How did you cope with it?”
“Family love and a special friendship between me and my siblings. We were very close. My family was only us. No uncles, no aunts, no cousins. When they died, Felipe, Carolina and I, we… We became inseparable. We had all our meals together. We slept in their room all the time. And we spent all the time we could with the twins. The best thing my grandparents did was to send me away. Me and Carol. After a week in Lausanne, I missed my parents so much, I missed my brother and my little sisters so much, all I wanted was to go back. I went through a month of unparalleled anger.” She gazed up to the blue sky and the sparse soft clouds, seeing her parents’ fading faces on them, remembering those times. “I know anger is acceptable when you’re grieving, especially when you’re a ten year old girl. Carol was eight, but she grew ancient in just a few weeks. And Felipe, he carried the weight of it all on his shoulders. He closed himself off and, like Carol, became an adult instantly. Always worrying about the future that he forgot to live his present. He was only sixteen. I think he thought he had to fill my father’s shoes.”
He brushed a lock of her raven hair behind her ear just to touch her. If he could, he would have pulled out all that grief from her soul.
Sophia leaned her face on his hand for a moment, closing her eyes and letting his warmth seep into her. “It was hard. It was a pain that went on and on and it never ended. It’s perverse to lose both parents at the same time,” she bit her lip and shook her head. A tear fell down her cheek when she whispered, “It was too soon to say good-bye. And what is even worse… Time dulls the pain, but then it also bleaches the good memories…” her words trailed away with a helpless gesture with her hand.
Instinct overcame him and he brought her onto his lap, nestling her back on his arm. Her pain unveiled his own. He couldn’t imagine Nathalie’s memories fading away. “I’m sorry, mo gràdh.”
Sophia sank on his chest. Solid. Warm. So real. When she looked up into his eyes, she saw her own heartache mirrored there, as if he felt her ache as his. Oh, Alistair Connor. You had it even worse than I did, didn’t you? She regarded him with love, as his pain-filled eyes reminded her he had lost a child. Nothing more perverse than that.
“That’s why I want Gabriela to have at least another sibling. I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I were an only child. Yeah, my grandparents were there. They were supportive and loving. But… my sisters and my brother… We shared the same pain and we bore it together. In that year in Lausanne, I was always with Carol. Joined by grief, by need, by love. We helped each other the best way we could. We dealt with our, quote unquote, acceptable anger, by doing things like fencing and skiing and all sorts of mad things, the worst young girls that ever passed by that school. We won every fencing competition. And every horse race, giving the horses rein as if we were chasing their killer. We punched our dough in the Cordon Bleu class, instead of kneading it delicately for hours, like it was responsible for their death. After a while, every girl in the class was passing us their dough behind the teacher’s back for us to knead it.” She smiled sadly at him. “The teacher, he knew, of course. But he closed his eyes to that. Those were acceptable things. The only time we were punished was when we fought over something ridiculous with a schoolmate and we had a flour war in Monsieur Putton’s kitchen. He had a fit and called the head-teacher.” Her smile was sad and his fingers combed her hair, bringing solace to the dull ache that was always waiting to resurface.
“What was the punishment?” His voice was intense as if he would take revenge on the teacher who dared punish her.
Her eyes turned wistful. “It was not that bad. Monsieur Putton had a very gentle heart. He was fun and talented. We lost our weekend outings for three months in a row. He said he was going to teach us to respect our elders, other people’s opinion and food.” Her lips curled up softly. “We learned to respect the kitchen. Oh, we did. For a few weekends, we were in the kitchen from ten in the morning to four in the afternoon. We peeled vegetables, we polished the pans and cooking utensils. We cleaned the kitchen until it shined. And we cooked. So many different recipes that we were never the same again. Carol cooks even better than I do. She’s always wanted to be a chef.” Her smile grew. “The sacrifice was rewarding. A lesson taught with love and sweets. That is the way lessons should be taught. With love.” She licked her lips and took an apple from the fruit plate. “I promise I’ll bake cookies and my decadent chocolate and fresh wild berries tartlet for you next week.”
Before she bit the apple he snatched it from her hand and bit it himself and offered it back to her.
The sinful look he gave her made her mind reel.
She was unable to make sense of the changes that came over him without explanation. One minute he has profoundly sad and the other, extremely aroused. She’d never experienced anything like it.
“You are scandalously debauched, Lord Mercurial,” she whispered to him.
He brushed her hair away and kissed her neck, nibbling the soft skin under her ear and sucking her earlobe lightly, before he confessed, “I’ve become so many different men since I met you that sometimes I don’t even recognize myself,” he said  inhaling her vanilla scent deeply.
“And that’s a good thing? Becoming Lord Multiple Personality?”

Every time I read one of Cristiane Serruya’s TRUST TRILOGY books, I feel like I’m taken on a food trip. Her heroine, Sophia Leibowitz, is such a big foodie her palate adventures always make my mouth water.

So I have to ask Cristiane to share a recipe, something simple that maybe you and I can try at home. Something that is decadent and delectable that it’ll feel we’re trying a special dish at a 5-star restaurant.

Sophia’s Cheese mousse with Guava sauce

“I have one great love: sweets,” said Sophia. “Oh, of course, first comes Gabriela, my gorgeous, sexy Alistair Connor and my family! But I’m assuming this everyone knows.

But it’s not every sweet I love. To be on the top of my list it has to be something really special, softy, smoothly and tasty. Mmmm! And with creamy sauce preferably.

So, today, I’ll tell you about a recipe I learned from my grandmother, Angelica. It can be found on every corner and it turned out to be as ‘common place’. Seems nothing special, then. What is it? A kind of cheesecake with guava creamy sauce over it.

Fruit jellies or sauces have this innate ability to make my mouth water and I lick my lips with just one glance. Cheeseis sinful, lusty and an excess that would make god Bacchus even more proud of his excesses. The curious thing ischeese is nothing more than milk!

Nonetheless, when it’s mixed with guava sauce, it is luscious, creamy and fragrant.

Guava hard pasta and Minas cheese is a traditional combination in Brazil. We call it Goiabada com queijo! Cheesecake is an American staple. So this “marriage” of flavors works, again, very well for Brazilians, Americans and, oh! for everyone!

But how could I make it even better, easier to do and lighterso I can eat it and still keep fit? Simple: All I had to do was to take away the carbohydrates and the fat! Because we all know that calories count!

I am in love with my Cheese mousse with Guava sauce, so let’s do it:

Ingredients for the sauce:

3 red guavas
½ spoons of sweetener
½ cup of water

Ingredients for the mousse:

1 ½ cup (10 ounces) of ricotta cheese – skim or light!
1 shallow spoon of sweetener
½ glass of skim milk
1 ½ teaspoons unflavored gelatin, without sugar
⅓ cup of water

“First, we will need to cool our silicone or ceramic pan. How to do it? Easy. Put water inside it and wet it all over very well, throw the water away and put it still wet in the freezer.

Clean the guavas very well and, if needed, peel them. Cut them in four halves and put them in a pan with the water and the sweetener. Let them cook for 15 minutes but don’t let them become too soft. Let them chill.

In a blender, mix the ricotta, the skim milk and the shallow spoon of sweetener. Process until it becomes a smooth mixture. This takes around 1 minute.

In a ceramic cup, mix the gelatin and the water. Cook it in water-bath for 30 seconds max. Be careful: the gelatin must not boil, just heat it a bit. Mix the gelatin with the cheese cream.

Take out your pan from the freezer; it’s already cold at the touch. Pour the cheese mixture into it. Put it back in thefreezer for 40 minutes.

While we wait— Hey!”

Alistair has sneaked behind Sophia’s back and tried to reach the pan with the guavas. She slapped his hand right on time.

“Alistair Connor! Don’t dare put your finger in this. Out of this kitchen. Right now!”

“Sophia, this smell came waffling through the house and my nose brought me here. I’m salivating!” Alistair flashed her a crooked smile. “Please?”

How cute! “It’s still hot, Handsome! You are going to burn your tongue.” She winked playfully at him. “I can’t stand you having your tongue burnt.”

“Then give me a kiss.” His smile grew naughtily as he bent to take her lips in a passionate kiss.

A loud ahem made Alistair and Sophia spring apart.

“Ooops, sorry, Supies and Braine! You know how I forget every thing when Alistair Connor kisses me,” she said, blushing. And pushed a pouting Alistair out of the kitchen.

“Hmmm… Right. Separate the seeds for their guavas’ outer parts and reserve the seeds for a sauce, it’s not everyone that likes them. Blend the hard parts until they become a delicious, smooth sauce. Let’s put both sauces in the refrigerator to chill.

After forty minutes, take the pan out the refrigerator and carefully run a knife around its edge. Put your serving plate upside down and turn it. If it doesn’t drop instantly, shake it gently. It will come down and won’t break.

Now, we can just turn the sauce over it and decorate it with mint leaves and voilà! in less than an hour we have done a delicious and light dessert.

“The only thing better than this is Sophia’s sinful kiss,” said Alistair Connor. “Now, if you excuse us, she is going to feed me this delicacy!”

“Bye, girls! I hope you have enjoyed it!” Sophia exclaimed, chasing Alistair who had fled the kitchen with the dessert.

Now this sounds sinfully good! I’m off to hunt for guavas and attempt to make this!

Shane Quesada, a four-century old vampire sentry, is known for cold, unemotional precision when hunting rogue vampires.
Maya Robertson is a youngling vampire who will not be controlled—and to prove it, she rejects Shane’s protection—only to find herself in over her head with an alpha werewolf.
Soon, a war between the coven and the werewolf clan ignites, and Maya and Shane flee to Louisiana, where their passion for each other grows—as does Maya’s power. When she finds herself at the center of the conflict, will she finally trust Shane with her life—and her heart?

Shane’s fangs erupted violently and his body tightened from the delicious, erotic effect of their minds connecting. It was like being bathed in desire, longing, and the sweet torture of unfulfilled lust. The flames of desire were extinguished at the sight of the protective shadows shrinking amid growing patches of light.
With the sun creeping up in the sky, the ache in his chest turned to a burning sensation. Just when he thought he’d scream with frustration, Maya dropped out of sight into the building. Jumping from the roof, Shane let out a sound of relief and landed silently in the empty street below.
Normally, he would fly back to the Presidium’s offices, but given how close the sun was, even he couldn’t outrun it. He yanked off a manhole cover and descended into the sewer. Whisking through the network of underground tunnels, he made his way toward the Presidium’s offices and his apartment. He couldn’t stop thinking about the surprising effects that had engulfed him when her mind touched his.
Maya wasn’t his sibling, his maker, or his progeny. He should not be able to hear her in his head, and he knew there could only be one other explanation. Bloodmates. Like all vampires, he had been told the legend not long after he’d been turned. According to the legend, if a vampire found his or her bloodmate and bonded, the two became daywalkers, vampires who could withstand the sun’s rays. Olivia and Doug’s bonding had not only proven the legend to be true but had revealed far more in the process.
Olivia and Doug could only telepath with each other.
Picking up speed, Shane growled with frustration and swept through the tunnels like a ghost. He hadn’t imagined it. Shane definitely heard Maya in his mind. But did that mean she was his bloodmate? That would certainly explain his overwhelming attraction to her and the fact that he was pulled into the dreamscape for the first time in centuries—and not into just any dream, but into Maya’s. What about Maya? Would it matter to her if they were bloodmates? As far as Shane could tell, she loathed him, and at the moment, he couldn’t blame her.
Maya must have seen him in the dreamscape last night and was now under the misguided impression that Shane had been there that night and had allowed her to be brutalized. He was filled with confusion, anger, and a fair amount of frustration. It was an appalling idea to think that Maya believed him to be that kind of monster.
He swore loudly, his voice echoing through the dark, dank tunnels. He was confused and didn’t like it one fucking bit. His life as a sentry had been clear, well defined, and orderly, but ever since he’d come to New York City and met Maya, his life had been anything but.
Shane came to an abrupt halt when he reached the entrance of the Presidium. Without even looking for it, he pressed the rectangular stone along the top of the wall. He made a face at the rats that ran past his feet and let out a sound of relief when the hidden door swung open, revealing the brightly lit halls of the Presidium’s New York facility.
He stepped into the sunny yellow hallway and the door closed silently behind him. The sound of his boot-clad feet hitting the red marble floor echoed through the corridor. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling and glittered, giving the hallway the illusion of sunlight.

Year 3.4: Captivating Bridge by Michelle Mankin + Press Release & Giveaway

Series: Tempest 3

Format: Mobi
Release Date: May 22, 2014
Publisher: Self
Source: Author
Genre: New Adult | Rockstar Romance

Warren “War” Jinkins is that guy.
The bad one.
Tempest’s ex front man, an arrogant rock god.
The only thing larger than his ego is his capacity for self-destruction.
His bad attitude has cost him. His woman. His best friend. His band. Everything.
Shaina Bentley is that girl.
The good one.
Hollywood’s pink candy-coated sweetheart.
The star of Pinky Swear, television’s top rated teen show.
She’s been practically perfect since that horrible day. But she’s starting to crack under the strain of being everything to everyone.
He’s a one man island. She’s a fragile captive soul.
Is love a current too dangerous to cross or will it be the bridge that brings them together?

*Author note: Each book in the Tempest series features a different band member and can stand alone.*

I’ve been itching to read Warren Jinkins’ story since Irresistible Refrain because this dude is so messed up he needs to be redeemed! Like seriously! Not only did he break from his band, he also screwed over his girlfriend and best friend in the process. War’s like a hurricane, out to level anything and anybody that’s standing in his way.
Until Shaina Bentley. The tween star who pumped love in War’s blackened heart.
Oh the angst! This is why I very rarely and am very picky with my new adult reads because of the frickin’ angst. Waaah! CAPTIVATING BRIDGE has hair-pulling, gut wrenching, jaw gritting, ANGST! Why?! Because when two broken and bent people decide to fall in love with each other, the healing process is unlike anything you’ve ever come across with! I assume it’s as painful and itchy as a werewolf shifting or a vampire knitting his skin together or something supernatural like that. It’s difficult to watch!

Stop and take a good look around you, War. You need to decide if being a one man island is what you really want. Cause there may come a time, whether you want it that way or not, when that’s all the company you’ll ever have. – Bullet

War is messed up because his mom is a druggie and his dad didn’t want him. Shaina is messed up because her older sister committed suicide and both her parents are controlling. Shaina taught War how to love in the real sense of the word and War gave Shayne freedom to be herself, to pursue her passion and to just let go and soar. It’s quite beautiful actually but their HEA was paved with tears, passive-aggressive rejections, misbehavior, celebrity meltdowns and lots of great sex. What’s NA without angsty sex?!

I’ve fallen for the oldest myth in the books, underestimating the damage done to him [War] and overestimating my ability to fix it. – Shayne
If this ain’t love that I’m feelin’ then I want a fuckin’ refund cause what else could set a black heart like mine free? – War

Anyway, CAPTIVATING BRIDGE is one captivating read. Michelle Mankin never fails to impress me with her almost lyrical writing style, she brings out the big guns on those momentous scenes to drive the emotions to your heart, bullseye, and all you can do is clutch your chest or cover your mouth to prevent yourself from exclaiming out loud. But despite the angst, she more than makes up for it by giving us heartwarming HEA’s. Not only did War and Shayne find true love with each other, War also managed to reconcile with Tempest and more importantly, mend the bridge between him and Lace. I got teary eyed when War finally had the “talk” with both Bryan and Lace, it was so sincere I think if it played out in front of me, I would be bawling like a crazy fangirl.
Obviously I’m excited for the next one, I wonder if Tempest 4 is Dizzy’s or someone else’s. But I have this gnawing question which is reinforced by the article below, now that War is friendly with the band again, what’s going to happen to Justin, the current frontman of Tempest and hero of Enticing Interlude
Guitar World News
Posted 06/22/2014 by Braine

Tempest fans were given a welcome surprise when Justin Jones became the new lead singer of the band. Justin Jones is twin to Avery Jones, the lead guitarist for Brutal Strength. According to Black Cat Records CEO, Mary Timmons, the twenty year old is, “a very talented vocalist, songwriter and guitarist who recently impressed a crowd of critics during a debut performance at the Amanda Todd Benefit Concert.” The CEO went on to say, “once Tempest fans see him in action, I’m sure they’ll love him.”

She may be right. Jones already has an online fan club with YouTube videos and photos like this one…

But a follow-up call to Tempest lead guitarist Bryan “Bullet” Jackson reveals all is not rainbows and the happily ever after that Timmons would like everyone to believe.

“Justin is a likeable guy,” says Bryan, “but he’s not War, no offense. He can walk the walk and talk the talk, but he doesn’t have the experience to back it up.”

“He’s unavailable,” was the official line from Charles Morris, the president of Zenith Productions when I asked for access to speak to War to get his response. So I did a little digging and located the controversial singer in Cabo San Lucas.

“Yeah, he’s a fuckin’ bullshit replacement,” War tells me from his poolside beach chair.

He’s in jeans, shirtless, and wearing mirrored sunglasses that hide his eyes, but I notice that his hands are gripping the arm rests hard enough to make the knuckles above his ringed fingers white. “I’ll put my music up against Jones’ any day.” He pauses to take a swig of Cabo Wabo straight from the bottle. It’s only ten in the morning, but hey, he’s a rock star, and it’s five o’clock somewhere. “Let the fan’s decide.”

So there you have it head bangers. It’s a musical throw down.

Be sure to check out Tempest’s second album, currently untitled. It’s expected to be out late spring as is Warren Jinkins’ self-titled solo album, War.

MICHELLE MANKIN is the author of the Black Cat Records series of novels. Romance with subtext. For many years she worked in the insurance industry as an underwriter. Somehow, the boredom didn’t kill her but the hour and hours of looking at facts and figures provided ample time for her mind to wander. Black Cat Records in Vancouver provides the central backdrop for all of Michelle’s current novels. Love Evolution, Love Revolution, and Love Resolution are a Brutal Strength centered trilogy, combining the plot underpinnings of Shakespeare with the drama, excitement, and indisputable sexiness of the rock ‘n roll industry. Things take a bit of a darker, edgier, once upon a turn with the Tempest series. These pierced, tatted, and troubled Seattle rockers are young and on the cusp of making it big, but with serious obstacles to overcome that may prevent them from ever getting there. When Michelle is not prowling the streets of her Texas town listening to her rock music much too loud, she is putting her daydreams down on paper or traveling the world with her family and friends, sometimes for real, and sometimes just for pretend as she takes the children to school and back.

Year 3.3: Tomorrow Wendell by R.M. Ridley + Character Chat & Giveaway

Tomorrow Wendell
R.M. Ridley
June 28, 2014
Xchyler Publishing
Sci-fi – Fantasy
When predictions tell Wendell Courtney he’s going to die, he turns to the one man he hopes can help. Jonathan Alvey’s no stranger to the strange. But, unlike the private investigator’s run-of-the-mill zombie cases, he can find no trace of magic around Wendell, and no hint of an adversary. Alvey certainly has magic and wits enough to solve the mystery, but is his offering to the insatiable dragon black sufficient? Or is Wendell truly destined to die?
Magic with a hint of noir, that’s my first impressions of R.M. Ridley’s TOMORROW WENDELL. But of course I might be wrong. But one thing’s for sure, every time there’s a mystery involved, rest assure that it’ll be one heck of a ride. Add some magic to it and I’m off to fantasy land.

Want to know more? Check out this cool character chat with the man himself, Jonathan Alvey.

A recorded interview with Private Investigator, Jonathan Alvey – interviewer’s name is not on record and will be listed simply as “I”.

I: First off, I’d like to thank you, Mr. Alvey, for taking the time to do this interview.

JONATHAN ALVEY: Wasn’t like you gave me much choice.

I: I can be persistent when necessary, but I think you want to partake in this interview as much as I do.

JONATHAN ALVEY:A: I’ll admit I’m intrigued by your level of competence.

I: Let’s begin then, shall we? Alvey—it’s an odd name, does it have a meaning?

JONATHAN ALVEY: Elf battle is the closest translation in modern English.

I: A dramatic name for sure. It sounds like something out of a fantasy novel. As a child did you pretend that you actually battled elves?

JONATHAN ALVEY: No, as a child I had no idea what my future would hold. I wonder if you recall what you wanted to be as a child?

I: I’ve wanted to be a reporter as long as I can remember.

JONATHAN ALVEY: Yes, I’m sure you have.

I: When you were little, what did the other kids tease you about?

JONATHAN ALVEY: They didn’t, when I was a young child I scared most other children.

I: You were a bully?

JONATHAN ALVEY: No—I scared them because I would talk to ghosts.

I: You’re imaginary friends were ghosts? That’s a bit macabre for a child. What did you parents think of this?

JONATHAN ALVEY: I never said they were imaginary, and as a minister, my father did his best to break me of the habit.

I: Tell me more about your father? Did you have a good relationship?

JONATHAN ALVEY: Your type doesn’t get to ask about my father.

I: You don’t like reporters asking about your father? Is that because of the trial?

JONATHAN ALVEY: You can leave now on of your own volition, or I can get up out of this chair.

I: I apologize. Please, that was out of line. I’ll move on. Is being a private investigator dangerous work?

JONATHAN ALVEY: I don’t know why I’m putting up with this.

I: What’s the harm?

JONATHAN ALVEY: All right, fine. I’ve got a few scars, but too often its boring, repetitive work. Every now and then something interesting comes through my door, however. I guess today’s one of those days, which is why I’m allowing you to stay.

I: That’s twice now you’ve implied I’m remarkable in some way, why is that?

JONATHAN ALVEY: You’ll just have to take me at my word on that one—for now.

I: You are a peculiar man, Mr. Alvey, but I’ll move on. How long have you been in the business?

JONATHAN ALVEY: Almost two decades, in some form or another.

I: That’s a long time; you must like what you do.

JONATHAN ALVEY: It pays the bills.

I: Surly there is more to it than that?

JONATHAN ALVEY: There is more—it needs doing.

I: Being a private investigator needs doing? How does spying on cheating spouses qualify as needing to be done?

JONATHAN ALVEY: That part doesn’t, that part is what pays the bills. But the other cases, the other clients who need help and don’t have the skills to protect themselves—someone has to be there for them.

I: And that someone is you? You make it sound like you are a hero more than an investigator.

JONATHAN ALVEY: I’m no hero. I just can’t sit back and let the darkness swallow this hellhole of a city, one soul at a time.

I: Sounds like your father had more influence on you than you let on.

JONATHAN ALVEY: You have any other questions, because I’m just about done with you?

I: All right, I’ll go on to the next question. What’s in your fridge?”

JONATHAN ALVEY: What’s in my—what kind of stupid question is that?”

I: A good one. It’s small things like sharing the same food as another that help others to bond and relate.”

JONATHAN ALVEY: Fine, but only so it gets you out of here faster. In my fridge there is a container of mustard, an apple my friend Ralph left for some reason . . . maybe to appease the harvest gods and—if I’m lucky—two beers. Any mores questions?

I: Why two beers?”

JONATHAN ALVEY: One to wash away the after taste left in my mouth from answering these inane questions and one for my breakfast tomorrow.

I: A beer for breakfast? You know with that statement, and the copious amounts of bourbon you’ve been consuming since this interview started, would it be a fair assessment to say you are an alcoholic, Mr. Alvey? And did the job drive you to it?

JONATHAN ALVEY: Another stupid question.

I: Why do you say that?

JONATHAN ALVEY: Because if I were an alcoholic, I’d say I wasn’t. But no, I’m not an alcoholic. I’m an addict—I drink to self-medicate.

I: So what are you addicted to then?

JONATHAN ALVEY: The same thing as every other practitioner—the magic.

I: Magic? You’re a magician as well as a private investigator? Do you do shows somewhere that I might be able to see?

JONATHAN ALVEY: I’m no magician. I’m a practitioner. I manipulate the real world. I don’t do slight of hand.

I: You’re trying to tell me magic is real?

JONATHAN ALVEY: I can prove it to you—but I don’t think you’ll like it.

I: Why won’t . . . I’ll take my chances, Mr. Alvey. Prove to me there is magic.

JONATHAN ALVEY: All right. Put your fingers to your neck and tell me what you pulse rate is.

I: I don’t . . .

JONATHAN ALVEY: Go on, check your pulse.

I: I can’t seem to find it—odd.

JONATHAN ALVEY: Now exhale onto this mirror.

I: How does any of this prove magic is real?

JONATHAN ALVEY: Just breathe.

I: Fine, I’ll humor you, Mr. Alvey.

JONATHAN ALVEY: Odd isn’t it? No pulse, no breath. That’s magic. And whoever reanimated you, is one hell of a good practitioner. Where are you going? You left your tape record—oh, never mind.”

Hi M. Pierce! Happy to have you today and thanks for playing 20questions with me. I’ll leave the serious questions to the others, right now I want to keep it light for my blogoversary.

Thanks for having me. I’m excited to answer your 20 questions and help celebrate your blog.

Btw, I read that you’re in a jam, good thing you got a good girl on your side. That one’s a keeper 😉

Hell yeah she is. Maybe I should put a ring on it.

You better, Beyonce was on to something when she wrote that song

  1. Favorite Summer activity – Sex. Also hiking and climbing. And camping. With Hannah. (Basically sex.)
  2. Pool or Beach? – Beach.
  3. Board Shorts or classic Euro banana hammocks? – Board shorts. What do you think I am? *ummm shameless and sexy? Not afraid to show off your goods?*
  4. Who is sexier, you or Christian Grey & the top reason why? – I think it’s clear that I’m sexier. I can hardly believe I need to dignify my answer with a reason. But, let’s just put it this way. Wait three books for anal that never really happens? Ain’t nobody got time for that. *oookaaayy*
  5. Favorite female body part – Answer I give most people: Eyes / mouth / neck. Truth: Tits.
  6. Would you rather date a cougar or a fresh-faced 18yo? (All for fun, Hannah!) – Oh man. This is low. Low question, Braine. Gonna have to go with that 18-year-old. I’m no manther, though, so Hannah’s got nothing to worry about. *Manther, dang I like that*
  7. Avengers or Justice League? – What or what? Neither. Not into comics or whatever.
  8. Favorite female body part? – Hahaha. Braine, I’m so glad you asked twice. My other favorite is the ass. *shit, I did blow that one, fuck!*
  9. Fill in the blanks: I just ate Hannah out.
  10. Cocktail of choice – I’m an alcoholic. No drinking for me. That said, give me a stiff Manhattan.
  11. Favorite bedroom accoutrements – I don’t know if you mean lingerie for Hannah (sheer crotchless anythings) or what I wear (boxers / lounge pants / nothing) or sex toys (plugs for her cute little ass) or bedroom décor, in which case I have no preference. Except mirrors above the bed are kind of nice…
  12. Sexy lingerie or PJ’s for girls? – Sexy lingerie please.
  13. Last book read – A reread of Disgrace by Coetzee. Great book.
  14. Book everyone must read before they die except for Night Owl – Gonna have to go with the Bible. *psh, safe answer*
  15. Favorite thing about Hannah – The fact that she loves me, because I’d be nothing without her. *awwww…*
  16. Hannah’s celebrity look alike – She’s like a mix between Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson and a luscious piece of cake.
  17. Saddest song you’ve ever heard – An old hymn, “What Wondrous Love is This.”

  18. What do you think about The Notebook (Nicolas Sparks) – I know that when Hannah made me watch it, I said at the end, “That’s so fucking unrealistic, the way they wake up dead together.” Wake up dead. I said that. Then we busted up laughing. Anyway, it’s a chick flick. Enough said.
  19. Most overrated holiday IYO – Overrated? I don’t know. Valentine’s Day seems like a Hallmark money-grab, but I’d celebrate V-Day for Hannah. I’d do anything for her. *Vagina day!*
  20. #1 item on your bucket list – Don’t have a bucket list. I’m living life to the fullest already.

Yet another 17 year old young woman was fighting for her freedom and her life.

Kira had lived in a magical world that Kay had only dreamt of. Despite this, her life had not been filled with many good things. As a matter of fact, she considered her empty, emotional solitude the only positive aspect of her life. She fought daily battles to escape abuse and torture.Trained to be an expert assassin, she was charged with kidnapping Kay and delivering her to Kira’s master, Lord Donovan.

As the two young women set forth in their journeys, their paths would cross in unimaginable ways. The only question that would remain was who would come out alive and whole in the end?

WARNING: This is a upper ya/young adult/new adult fictional story that includes some explicit language, graphic violence, and mild sexual situations. Recommended for ages sixteen and up.

Jessie Lane, Crystal and Melissa, is one of my favorite indie authors. Their books are always snarky, funny, and packed with the good stuff, it’s hard NOT to get lost in their tales. Not only that, these two are such sweethearts! Very personable, treating their “fans” like friends, zero diva airs. Win-win!

Now the chat interview below is kinda important. Why? Because Jessie Lane is sans Melissa now… Juicy bit, right?

Hi everyone! Today, Melissa and I (Crystal), formerly the Jessie Lane writing duo, are stopping by Talk Supe today to interview each other! How’s that for a change? We’re going to talk books and what the future looks like for both of us after Mel has departed Jessie Lane. Ready for this? シ

Crystal’s Interrogation… err… Interview of Melissa:

CRYSTAL: You’ve just published your very first book, THE FROZEN STAR! CONGRATULATIONS LADY! How do you feel? Nervous? Excited? Anxious to move onto the next project?

MELISSA: Nervous and ready to move on at the same time. I have a lot of ideas about what I want to start next and can’t wait to get them going.

CRYSTAL: What was your favorite part(s) of writing THE FROZEN STAR and why?

MELISSA: Having Liam beat the crap out Cole was one of my favorite scenes. I wanted to show the warrior/deadlier side to Liam since the beginning of the book. Liam reminds me of all the men in our family and what they would do to protect us.

CRYSTAL: What were some of the movies, books, music or other things that helped you delve into the fantasy/paranormal world of the Star Series for THE FROZEN STAR

MELISSA: I’m a geek and so is my hubby. So I watch him play video games and he always explains things “in detail” to me so when I asked about the mages or as I called them “spell-speakers”, he was my best resource for what they could and couldn’t do.

CRYSTAL: So, you and I have told the world through the Jessie Lane website that you’ve departed from Jessie Lane to pursue a solo writing career. Now that the cat’s out of the bag, tell everyone what you’re working on! What book will you release next?

MELISSA: First up is the book I’m writing with my brother, Matthew, called Zombies Don’t Ride Motorcycles. Which we are aiming for a late summer or early fall release. I also am working on a romantic comedy inspired by the hilarious antics of my husband and our friends, the first book will be out this fall.

(Okay, Melissa, you gotta hit me up when this Zombie book of yours comes out)

CRYSTAL: From what you and I have discussed, you’re dabbling in a little bit of many genres. Urban Fantasy, Paranormal and Contemporary Romance. What’s your favorite genre to write and why?

MELISSA: At the moment it’s paranormal. I love the no holds bar aspect to the genre. My imagination has a mind of its own so it’s best to let it run free when it can.

CRYSTAL: FUN QUESTION! If you could be transported to live inside the book of your choice, which book would it be?

MELISSA: It would have to be one of Shelley Laurenston’s books.

Melissa’s Interview of Crystal:

MELISSA: Out of all the books that are under the Jessie Lane pen name, which one was the hardest scene for you to write?

CRYSTAL: This is a toughie for me. There have been a few scenes that were hard for me for one reason or another, but if I have to choose one it would come from Secret Maneuvers. At the end of the Prologue, when Belle is fighting with her Dad and then receives Bobby’s break up letter had me in tears. Her sense of loss and helplessness is overwhelming and it’s always hard to read or write about a character who’s that broken. The second toughest scene I’ve written, funny enough, is in Stripping Her Defenses, the second book in the Ex Ops Series. I’m still working on that book.

MELISSA: I know you’re a music nut just like me, so tell everyone what’s on your playlist right now for your go to music to get you ready for the day.

CRYSTAL: Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm, Stone Sour, Shinedown, Of Mice and Men, Volbeat, Like A Storm and We As Humans. I listen to a lot of rock and metal when writing any Big Bad Bite Series book and I’m currently working on The Demon Who Loved Me.

MELISSA: If you could become a member of the Fae world, what race would you choose and why?

CRYSTAL: Ohhhhh, this is a really good question Mel! Um, if I had to pick a class of Fae it would probably be the Sidhe. Not because it would put me in any “royal” family as it’s written in the Star Series world, but because the idea that I could have wings and powers. And I’d want to be from the Summer Court. They’re the “party crowd” and I think we all know I like to get wild every now and then, lol.

MELISSA: What is the next big thing you are excited about for Jessie Lane?

CRYSTAL: I’m very excited about a few things coming up for Jessie Lane. The first would probably have to be the fact that both Big Bad Bite and Walk On The Striped Side are coming out on audiobook through Tantor! Big Bad Bite releases June 19th and Walk On The Striped Side releases July 10th. I’m also very excited to be working on The Demon Who Loved Me and I just bought the cover model photo for that book. I stumbled across a model who looks just like how I picture Kent in my head. I can’t wait for everyone to see the finished book cover in a couple of months!

MELISSA: What is your favorite genre to write in and why?

CRYSTAL: I don’t have a favorite. I love paranormal and contemporary equally. The paranormal genre allows me to write out of this world scenes and unreal humor that would be over the top in a contemporary world. The contemporary genre allows me to delve into human emotions and how actions in life affect us. I love both aspects.

MELISSA: Your turn on the FUN QUESTION – If you could be transported to live inside the book of your choice, which book would it be?

CRYSTAL:I’d love to live in a Karen Marie Moning book I think. I love all of her worlds and characters and wouldn’t mind meeting one of her sexy highlanders in person. Hee.

CRYSTAL: Before we go, a few people have inquired if things are still amicable between Melissa and myself since we’ve gone our separate ways. So let’s make that our last question that we’ll answer together to squash all the curiosity and possible gossip out there. Melissa and I are family. We’ll always love each other. So yes, not only are things amicable, but things are great. We’re both very excited about our future projects and what’s ahead of us. Right hoss?

MELISSA: Right. There are just a lot of things that are going on in both of our lives that require more attention and unfortunately I need to depart from the duo so that I can pursue mine on my own, but we don’t know what the future holds for us. We will always be family and therefore support one another in whatever we want to do.

CRYSTAL: I can’t wait for the world to see what Melissa has in store for them! I hope everyone enjoyed our interview today. Was there anything that wasn’t asked that you hoped would be asked? If so, feel free to ask us below in the comments section! Thanks everybody! And thank you Braine for having us by your super fabulous blog today. HAPPY BLOGOVERSAY LADY!

Thanks crazy Beeches for the updates which I’m excited for as well as ending speculations about y’all’s relationship. Love you, guys!

Year 3.3: Darkness Bound by J.T. Geissinger + Giveaway

Darkness Bound
Night Prowler 5

Urban Fantasy
Montlake Romance
June 24, 2014

Tough, smart, and seriously ambitious, reporter Jacqueline “Jack” Dolan despises the secretive clan of shape-shifters known as the Ikati—and has become determined to destroy them. After she writes an editorial arguing for their extermination and turns public opinion against them, the Ikati vow to fight back. They plot to send one of their own to seduce the reporter, then blackmail her into writing a retraction.

Women practically fall at the feet of hulking, handsome Hawk Luna, and Hawk relishes the idea of conquering and destroying the fiery redhead who’s caused so much trouble for his kind. The last thing he expects is to develop real feelings for her, but their liaison awakens a hunger in him that he cannot deny. He kidnaps Jack and brings her to his Amazon jungle colony, but the two lovers are soon embroiled in deadly colony politics and threatened by a looming global species war.
As the danger around them grows closer, Jack and Hawk’s forbidden passion may build a bridge between two ancient enemies—or cost them both their lives.
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
This exclusive excerpt takes place at approximately the 80% mark of the book. It hints at what’s in store for book 6, INTO DARKNESS, the final book in the series.

A small figure approached the barren hill where the funeral pyre still smoked. Robed in black, she turned to face the gathering, her long, pale hair held back from her face with a pair of matching gold combs. She was slight and somber in the gray light, a wisp of a thing, a changeling of great power and ancient magic disguised as a mortal woman.
Into the waiting silence, the woman raised her voice and said, “Im ana simtim alaku, mala sihirtu.”
Gasps and shocked whispers rippled through the crowd. Jenna, the Diamond Queen, half human, raised as an outsider in the human world, had just spoken in the Old Language.
A language no one outside this colony knew. Had ever known, for thousands upon thousands of years.
What she’d said was: “He goes to his fate, as must we all.”
In English, the Queen continued.
“This day is a dark one. The man who passes from this world to the next was a friend to me once. I’ve come to believe that our friendship was doomed not because of hatred or ignorance, but because the rules of our world were set up so long ago, in such a different time, that they do nothing but strangle us today. If we continue to abide by the old ways, we guarantee our extinction, whether by friend or foe. Everything must evolve to survive. I’ve lost too many people because of our outdated ways. I refuse to lose another one.”
She paused, looking into the crowd.
“You’re my family, not my subjects. You’re not beholden to me. Your lives are your own. From this moment on, you’re free to live your lives any way you see fit. You’re free to leave this colony if you choose. If you do so, you won’t be punished or chased. But you will be on your own. And from what I know of the world, you won’t be welcome. Not yet.”
A crushing silence followed this declaration, a hush of such weight it seemed to affect gravity. Deepening it, so that Hawk felt himself sink down further into the ground beneath his feet.
“I say this not as a threat, but as a call to arms. If you decide to stay, as I dearly hope you will, you’ll be faced with a test. A dire one, and immediate. Our enemies know where we are, and they’re ready to strike. War is coming. Soon. Anyone who chooses to stay must be willing to fight. There’s no guarantee we’ll win, but if we don’t fight, we’re guaranteed to perish. So I’ll leave it to you. I’ll fight until I’m dead to defend my home and my people. With you or without you, I’ll fight. But with all the gods, old and new, as my witness, I pray it’s with you.”
Jenna’s voice broke. “Because you are what I fight for. What I live for. What I would gladly die for. Every single one of you.”
A beat of silence.
A breath of wind.
A lone bird call in the trees.
Then the sound of a thousand voices rising as one, a scream of support and euphoria.
A rallying cry.
As if in a dream, Hawk looked around at all the faces. The open mouths, the raised arms, the expressions of elated astonishment. People jumped and hugged and shouted in glee as if they hadn’t just been told their lives were in danger, and they might all soon be dead.
Hawk knew why there was such an outpouring of happiness. The danger didn’t matter. Not compared to what they’d just been given, something not a single soul present had ever had in their lives:
Freedom.
Marveling, Hawk looked back at the Queen. In one fell swoop, she’d crushed thousands of years of draconian Law, and gained the loyalty and love of an entire army of supernatural beasts.
They would stay. Judging by the roar that had overtaken the crowd, every one of them would stay. A single word rose above the noise, a word repeated with growing volume until it was deafening, shaking the foundations of the earth.
Ta-hu! Ta-hu! Ta-hu!”
Fight! Fight! Fight!
Hawk raised his arms overhead, opened his mouth, and lent his own voice to the multitude.
I just read book 1, Shadow’s Edge, and I promise it’s a great read! The prose! Read the excerpt if you want a taste of how J.T. writes her scenes.
It’s sensual and exotic as what’s expected about feline shifters
The mythology and cosmology is NEW!
But I want to binge a little before I go all out on the review. For now, read the NIGHT PROWLER Series 101 that I did with J.T. a few months back so you get acquainted with the books some more.

J.T. Geissinger’s debut novel, Shadow’s Edge, was published in 2012 and was a #1 Amazon international bestseller in both the fantasy romance and romance series categories, and won the PRISM award for Published Authors for Best First Book. She was a finalist for the prestigious RITA® award from the Romance Writers of America for Best Paranormal Romance for her second book in the Night Prowler series, Edge of Oblivion. A self-professed “book addict,” Geissinger currently lives in Los Angeles with her family, and is at work on her next novel. Edge of Darkness is preceeded by Rapture’s Edge, and will be followed by Darkness Bound in Spring 2014. There are six books total planned for this bestselling series.

Year 3.3: Hiding In The Spotlight by Karen Booth + Rock Stars & Giveaway

Series: Stand-alone

Format: PDF
Release Date: May 29, 2014
Publisher: Torquoise Morning Press
Source: Author
Genre: Contemporary Romance | Rock Stars

Alex Halford’s rock-star husband, Glenn, steals away in the middle of the night, leaving her with their two boys, a mountain of debt, and one person to turn to—his lifelong friend and band mate, David Callahan. David helps Alex pick up the pieces of her shattered life, happy to have any time with the woman he’s loved for seventeen years. Every moment with her is ripe with opportunity, and every last idea running through his mind would destroy his brotherly bond with Glenn.

Out from under Glenn’s thumb, Alex can see the person she was before marriage, finding feelings for David she thought she’d left behind in high school. A single kiss and the floodgates open, giving her new hopes of happiness. But when David and Glenn’s band has a chance to be back on top, David must convince Glenn to return. With every passing day, success comes closer, Glenn’s ego inflates, and David and Alex find it more difficult to hide. One misstep and the secret comes out, forcing David to choose between his life’s work and the woman he doesn’t want to leave behind.

I love the Karen Booth novels that I’ve read so far for two things. One, she plays with the rock star fantasy. I think any music lover can relate to that whether you dreamt of ending up with Elvis Presley or Harry Stiles or someone in between. Next her characters aren’t in the first bloom of love, they’ve lived their lives and are done sowing their wild oats. So the indecision in her romances aren’t centered on juvenile naïveté, rather her H/h deals with issues that has more depth and encompassing like children and marriage.

HIDING IN THE SPOTLIGHT is like that and so much more. Aside from the devastation of divorce and the pressures of floating your family and rebuilding your life, Alex finds herself in the cusp of a new romance. David is Alex and Glenn’s oldest friend and has been in love with Alex since High School. As Alex’s marriage falls apart, David patiently courted and seduced Alex all the while his and Glenn’s band, got a second wind, scoring a new hit and a soundtrack. All should be well but between the lines you can easily surmise that this is the calm before the storm and the inevitable confrontation between Alex, Glenn and David is bound to happen and their loyalty, integrity, and friendship will be tested.
I love the conflict and all it’s complications but I had a hard time empathizing and connecting with Alex. Sure the premise her marriage was riddled with infidelity and is basically loveless, still theirs is a different kind of partnership and it’s dissolution is nothing short of devastating especially given the circumstances. Even with a hot and supportive guy waiting on the wings, if your husband leaves you penniless with two kids to support, romance would be the last thing on any decent mother’s mind.
Alex’s situation is good in that she had a safety net in David but as far as Glenn’s abandonment and the divorce, Alex was too… light and I feel that there should be more anger, sadness, hesitation or even remorse thrown in to contrast her pending relationship with David. David was consistent in second guessing himself and questioning his loyalty to Glenn even if the dude deserved it. But Alex? I felt she was more on the rebound than truly in love with David at first. Now I’m all for HEA and for sure Alex and David have theirs, I’m just having a hard time buying the resolution. Sure, love conquers all and maybe I’m the only one who’s putting too much weight on the divorce but I just felt HIDING IN THE SPOTLIGHT wrapped too conveniently, the bow too neat and tight. Now don’t mind my small criticism maybe I was wrong to expect Drama with a capital D when it’s quite obvious KBooth wants to give us a light and optimistic story.
Regardless, KBooth gave us another great modern and tender love story in HIDING IN THE SPOTLIGHT. Friends to lovers, second chance in love, a rock star who isn’t a jerk but every bit the good guy we hoped he would be. Fantasy fulfilled, mission accomplished.
I love Karen’t rock star books because her heroines aren’t blooming
damsels rather they’ve lived a little. And as a 30-something female, it gives me great pleasure (and hope) that HEA isn’t exclusive to the younger set. And we’re not just talking about any other HEA but bliss with someone everybody wants. Playing with the fantasy of ending up with someone you’ve idolized, worshipped, fangirled over is quite enticing and enabling. Hence I love getting lost in Karen’s stories. Read up so you get a better grasp of what kind of rockstars Karen writes about.

It’s so awesome to be invited back to Talk Supe, especially to talk about rock stars!

HIDING IN THE SPOTLIGHT is another “rock star” novel and this trope has found a good niche in the contemporary romance genre. I know you’re a fan of music like most of us and from that POV, what is it about rock stars that is so attractive or alluring hence the groupies and rabid fan followers?

Music is definitely the starting point for me. Great music makes you feel something and even more importantly, it can conjure those same emotions every time you listen to it. Even better, music can help you reclaim those feelings in only a few minutes—sometimes it only takes a few notes. It’s a much more immediate form of expression than a book or film or art. That’s a powerful thing.

The other half of the equation is the appeal of the creative guy. I don’t care if a guy looks good in a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt, if he has a super buttoned-up personality or occupation, it doesn’t really do it for me. Creativity requires sensitivity, but musical creativity requires bravado. You have to get up on that stage and perform. I was never good at math, but I’m pretty sure that Creativity + Bravado = Sexy Musician = Yes, please.

And as a writer, what is it about these music gods that you find so enchanting that they continue to inspire you to write about them?

I’ve been inspired to write so many rock star books because I’ve wanted to explore different aspects of musicians and their lives. In Bring Me Back, it was the teen idol, 20 years later and the question of whether a couple could form a real bond when there’s been hero worship in the mix. In the sequel, Back Forever, I wrote about the career musician settling down and figuring out how to live a “normal, everyday” life. In Love My Way, I dealt with groupies and jealousy. In Hiding in the Spotlight, I wrote about the family dynamics of a band and how difficult it is to break free of those bonds. Rock stars live complicated, fascinating lives—there’s a lot of material there!

When writing your heroes, do you take into consideration stereotypes “sex, drugs, rock ‘n roll” or the popular thing these days which are the “tortured” aka abused heroes?

I don’t write the tortured/angsty rock star. I don’t think I could, even if I wanted to. I always write what I want to read, and I, personally, want the fantasy of being with the real person who also happens to be a rock star, not the persona a rock star plays when on stage.

To me, the impossibly dark rock star is largely a persona. I worked in the music industry for over a dozen years and I didn’t meet one rock star whose stage persona and real personality were the same. It’s all an illusion, which is fine—that’s what people pay for and expect. They want to see a person who is larger than life get up on that stage. I choose to write about it from the standpoint of a normal (incredibly hot and unbelievably handsome, of course!) person who choses to be a musician and is super successful at it, rather than the reverse. I’d like to see my heroine fall for a real guy, not the character he plays on stage.

Now, we all must have our demons, and my rock stars have plenty, but they are also capable of being good life partners, taking care of children, and being hopelessly goofy or sentimental. Again—bravado and creativity meet and make a wonderful marriage.

Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on 80s music, Judy Blume, and the films of John Hughes. An early preoccupation with rock ‘n’ roll led her to spend her twenties working her way from intern to executive in the music industry. Much of her writing revolves around the world of backstage passes and band dynamics. When she isn’t creating fictional musicians, she’s listening to music with her kids, honing her Southern cooking skills or sweet-talking her astoundingly supportive husband into whipping up a batch of cocktails.
